Matthew Medley, Industry Director of A&D Manufacturing at IFS, states that the defense industry appears to be progressing positively in 2023 despite the current macro-level economic and geopolitical changes. He believes that the introduction of new technologies such as additive manufacturing and Maritime 4.0 could increase manufacturing efficiency and readiness. Additionally, autonomous surface and subsurface vessels are expected to be used more to gather information on hostile forces. He highlights that space is becoming a major focus for the defense industry, with major superpowers and NATO actively working on inter-operational frameworks. In turn, the implementation of new technology and associated data must be kept secure, thus requiring the development of strong cybersecurity.
